10 Directors Who Slammed Their Own Movies

2. Also Michael Bay (Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen)

THUMB Michael Bay
Paramount Pictures

Though critics aren't exactly calling Ambulance a work of cinematic genius, it's been praised for its thrills, intensity, and lead performances, and has at least managed to hold a fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

But the consensus on 2009's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, also directed by Bay? Yeah. That was nowhere near as positive.

Bloated, stupid, and colder than the metal those Transformers are made from, watching Revenge of the Fallen is a good way to give yourself a headache, and even Bay himself has some serious regrets about how the movie turned out, telling Empire in 2011 that it was "crap".

To give Revenge of the Fallen a little bit of credit, it was badly affected by the Hollywood writers’ strike, which resulted in the script being rushed. Then again, Bay's other Transformers movies still sucked even without a strike going on - so this probably didn't make much of a difference in the end.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
