10 Directors Whose Debut Movie Ended Their Careers

5. Liam Lynch - Tenacious D: The Pick Of Destiny (2006)

TENACIOUS D Pick Of Destiny
New Line Cinema

Back in 2006, Tenacious D and Jack Black were two things still considered to be pretty cool, so director Liam Lynch - best known for his music videos at the time - must have counted his blessings when Black offered him the chance to direct the Tenacious D movie, subtitled the Pick of Destiny.

Lynch had worked with the D (call them "the D", it's cooler) on their music video for "Tribute" previously, so what, exactly, could go wrong? A lot, apparently, given that Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny was pretty darn sucky, as it happens.

Can we blame all this on Liam Lynch, though? Perhaps not, but it's easier if we do. To be fair to everyone involved, if you like Tenacious D (ahem - I mean "the D"), then you'll probably find some good in this movie, but it's mostly one-joke stretched out over 90 minutes, and no thanks.

Anyway, Liam Lynch does TV stuff now, because this movie lost $7 million.
