10 Directors Whose Debut Movie Ended Their Careers
4. Alexander Witt - Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)
Alexander Witt has amassed a truly impressive filmography across the span of his lengthy career - he's worked as a second unit director on Gladiator, Fast Five, The Town and Casino Royale, among, like, thirty others. Still, if this guy's work on Resident Evil: Apocalypse as a fully-fledged director doesn't perfectly sum up "The Peter Principle," then nothing does.
"The Peter Principle" denotes, by the way, that "members of an organization where promotion is based on achievement, success, and merit will eventually be promoted beyond their level of ability." Which is to say, Witt was doing perfectly fine where he was, but given his years of experience, he was given the opportunity to direct an actual movie, and it turns out it was all too much for him.
Which is why he's back on second unit now, where he belongs.
