So when the sublime trailer for Killing Them Softly rolled in, I was considerably enthusiastic for it, to say the least. The Reality: There's some of the same visual and conceptual genius here that was on full display in Jesse James. But it only comes in spurts. In between, there are agonizingly long stretches of dullness. People talk. And talk. And listen to more talk on the radio. Which hammers in the film's themes again. And again. And again. Just in case you missed it. No one missed it. But few cared.
