10 Disney Supporting Stars That Need Their Own Movie

7. Mushu

Eddie Murphy got to practice his vocal chops long before taking on the role of Donkey in the Shrek series, playing the diminutive dragon Mushu, friend to Mulan.

Mushu is easily the best thing in the film, bringing exactly the right amount of levity to the story. Murphy's performance is flawless, building not just a comedic sidekick, but a caring character for Mulan to lean on when needed.

While his backstory has been touched on in the film, Mushu is a strong enough character to warrant a film. He is funny. He can be serious when the need arises. He easily falls into that category of Disney sidekicks who work to prove themselves throughout the tale. Though he starts the film in disgrace, is he one of the family dragons just by birth, or was there something else?

Chinese Middle Kingdom mythology is a vast and often beautiful tapestry of tales to be told. The tale of a Dragon fallen from grace, only to rise to the top again makes for a wonderful rags to riches tale, something that Disney does so very well, on so many occasions.

If Murphy could be persuaded to return to the role, that would only serve to be the cherry on top. With the remake of Mulan hitting theatres....sometime....the time is right for this character to shine again.
