10 Disney Villains Who Were Just Misunderstood

3. Sid Just Wanted To Play With His Toys

Walt DisneyWalt DisneyLet's be real here -- all Sid does in this film is play creatively with his toys and torment his little sister. Because what little boy doesn't taunt their kid sister by taking away their dollies? You might have a case against Sid if he was willfully chopping up and torturing sentient beings, but that's not what happens here. He has no clue that his toys are alive. Why would he? In his mind, he's not hurting anything any more than we are when we tear up a sheet of paper (although undoubtedly notebooks look on, appalled by our psychotic behavior). What's more, the creatures that he builds from spare toy parts are actually sort of beautiful, in a Mary Shelley kind of way. He's clearly an imaginative and creative little boy, who could grow up to be an inventor or a designer with his interesting sense of aesthetics. You might be thinking, "But what about the explosives he's so delighted by? Doesn't that show signs of a truly evil mind?" Well, not unless every ten year old boy you know is secretly a criminal mastermind. What kid isn't enthralled by fireworks and rockets and things that explode in the air? And Sid is staging a pretend NASA mission, for God's sake, not a ritual sacrifice.
