10 Disney Villains You Actually Root For

3. Hades

Appeared in: Hercules (1997) Sporting James Woods' lightning-fast (no, hang on that's Zeus' thing) dialogue, Hades is most probably the funniest of all Disney villains, brilliantly setting the tone for this lighter-hearted entry into the Disney canon. Compared to other villains who gloat and glower, Hades is unique meaning there is no way you can side with the decidedly vanilla protagonist of Hercules over this wiseracking star of the show. Bored of his role as the lord of the underworld ("it's a little dark, little gloomy and, oh yeah, full of dead people!"), Hades plots to usurp his brother Zeus' role as the ruler of Mount Olympus. While this is a pretty understandable scheme - we all fancy someone else's job - it's Hades' personality that really gets you on side as nearly every great line in the film is his. He'll have you in Styx-es!
