10 Disturbing Movie Deaths Nobody Remembers
1. Troy - Snowtown
Justin Kurzel's 2011 thriller Snowtown is a criminally underseen dramatisation of the real-life Snowtown murders, and an absolutely gruelling sit from start to finish.
But its single most soul-searing moment occurs when protagonist Jamie's (Lucas Pittaway) abusive half-brother Troy (Anthony Groves) is tortured by Jamie's new ultra-violent father figure, John (Daniel Henshall).
John has Troy repeatedly strangled with a cord but releases him before he can asphyxiate, all while a horrified Jamie looks on.
Eventually Jamie decides to intervene and administer a mercy killing to his half-brother, pulling the cord tight and strangling Troy to death once and for all.
This entire sequence goes on for about five minutes with Kurzel refusing to cut away as the life is slowly squeezed out of Troy.
Considering how films incorrectly depict strangulation as a quick way to kill someone, it was incredibly shocking to see it depicted in such a detached fashion as it was here.
And knowing that this actually happened just makes it that much more discomforting.
