4. Alice - Lake Mungo
A very clever take on the classic haunted house story, Lake Mungo is an Australian film that pulls no punches when it begins with the drowning of a teenage girl.
Over the course of the movie, the family of Alice Palmer attempt to come to terms with her loss as her spirit apparently haunts the family home. After making a series of discoveries about the girl, the Palmers decide to leave the house, believing the ghost to now be at rest.
How wrong they were.
The final shot of the movie is a family photo of the three surviving Palmers... and the one non-surviving one. Faintly peering out of the living room window is a dimly-lit spectral figure - the white hue of Alice's ghost.
Lake Mungo then rubs in your face how stupid you've been by showing a bunch of clips from the film where Alice's ghost can be spotted in the background.
Movie 1, Viewers 0. Idiots.
The fact that Alice has been there the entire time completely changes how this movie is viewed. Have fun endlessly re-watching it trying to spot them all! Bet you can't.
