3. The Xenomorph - Alien (Director’s Cut)
We've cheated a little tiny bit here by including a special version of a beloved horror staple.
Alien is all about the shadows. Where is the Xenomorph hiding? When will it strike next? What is it thinking about? Hopefully it's cupcakes and puppies rather than bloody murder.
Sometimes though, the titular creature doesn't need the cover of darkness to keep itself out of sight.
In the Director's Cut of Ridley Scott's sci-fi horror, there is a scene where Brett the engineering technician goes off to search for Jones the cat. As you can imagine, looking for a lost pet in the middle of a hostile takeover by an unknown extra-terrestrial is a bad idea.
Brett ends up saying bye-bye to his life when the Xenomorph gets him, but the monster is actually visible right before this goes down.
It's very well hidden in amongst some chains and equipment aboard the Nostromo. It can be spotted right before it jumps out at Brett, offering us the first glimpse of the fully-grown Xenomorph.
Just when we thought we couldn't love Alien even more, it goes and gives us something like this. How lucky we are.
