Doctor Who has always delighted its fans with having some great guest stars to appear in it's Christmas special episodes. Guest have included the likes of former James Bond actor, Timothy Dalton, Catherine Tate, Kylie Minogue and David Morrissey. One of the biggest guests to appear in the show was, Sir Ian McKellen.

McKellen leant his voice in the episode, The Snowman, where he played the character The Great Intelligence. The episode also starred Richard E. Grant and marked the second outing for Jenna Coleman in the TV series.

"I'm in love with Matt Smith, the current Doctor Who, who is on his way out now. To watch it vairy, change and develop and grow up frankly I think. I suppose if you were to look back at those very early episodes and all the way through to the present day you would get a sense of what it was like to be alive at those times.

Before appearing in Doctor Who, McKellen was best known to Whovians as Magneto in the X-Men movies. First making his appearance in the 2000 movie, X-Men, McKellen would go on to play the character five more times.

McKellen is yet to return to the show but he did have a small cameo in the 50th anniversary mini-movie, The Five-ish Doctors, alongside Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit director, Peter Jackson.
