Following on from David Tennant to play The Doctor seemed like an impossible casting call with a lot of fans hesitant yet excited to see who would be taking over. Even the BBC thinking about pulling the plug on Doctor Who.

On the 3rd of January 2009, it was announced that the eleventh Doctor would be played by the unknown, 26-year-old, Matt Smith who would make his debut in the 2010 new years day special. Smith spent a happy three years in charge of the TARDIS with showrunner Steven Moffat by his side. After handing the keys over to Peter Capaldi, Smith went on to star in several movies and TV shows.

Currently known for playing Prince Charles in the first few seasons of Netflix's The Crown, Smith has also appeared in several movies that have failed to perform well at the box office including Terminator Genisys as well as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Smith was also set to star in the last Star Wars movie, The Rise Of Skywalker, but had his role cut out of the film to the disappointment of his fans.

Matt Smith is currently set to star alongside Jared Leto in the Sony/Marvel movie Morbius. The film will follow the life of Michael Morbius who tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease, but when his experiment goes wrong, he inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism instead. According to IMDB, the now 37-year-old actor, will be playing the role of Hunger.
