10 Dream Directors For Hollywood's Biggest Franchises
5. Christopher Nolan - James Bond
This one has come up so often over the last few years that it seems a case of when, rather than if, Christopher Nolan signs on to direct a James Bond movie. As well as being a noted fan of the franchise, the strength of Nolan's work has seen him elevated to the status of 'event director' alongside the likes of Steven Spielberg and James Cameron, with his name alone strong enough to sell any project to most audiences.
With his movies having taken almost $4.7bn at the box office and earned 26 Academy Award nominations along the way, not to mention his status as one of the most important and critically-acclaimed filmmakers in the industry, Nolan signing on to tackle 007 would bring unseen levels of anticipation and prestige to the series. Sam Mendes openly admitted Nolan's work was a huge influence on Skyfall, and that turned out to be one of the most critically-lauded installments yet, as well as the most lucrative.
However, as enticing a prospect as it seems to be, question marks still remain. While it has undoubtedly improved massively over the years, directing action doesn't come as naturally to Nolan as it does to many of his contemporaries, and doubts linger as to whether the typically-cerebral filmmaker can deliver the sense of fun and playfulness that comes with the territory of making a Bond movie. One thing is for certain; it would make an absolute killing at the box office.
