With the 'Caesar Trilogy' reaching its conclusion and Matt Reeves now tied up with The Batman, should 20th Century Fox look to continue the Planet of the Apes franchise then they could do a lot worse than hiring Reeves' fellow Bad Robot alum Drew Goddard.

Goddard has shown a keen awareness and understanding of genre movies from Cloverfield's verite stylings putting a fresh spin on the monster movie to his Academy Award-nominated script for The Martian resulting in one of the best sci-fi movies in recent memory. Even The Cabin in the Woods, his sole directorial effort co-written with mentor Joss Whedon, subverts the entire horror genre with a meta post-modern twist.

After seeing his proposed Sinister Six spin-off nixed in the wake of Sony's licensing agreement with Marvel Studios, Goddard is due his shot at taking on a big-budget blockbuster. With the rebooted Apes franchise now famed for its complex and intelligent approach to what was once B-movie material, the 42 year-old Texan would be an ideal candidate to build on the legacy established by Reeves and Andy Serkis.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
