10 Dumbest Decisions By Lord Of The Rings Characters
6. Frodo Stares Into The Dead Marshes
Defining the Lord of the Rings' protagonist isn't a simple feat. Sure, Frodo is technically the leading character who the story revolves around, but other figures like Aragorn and Samwise Gamgee also have a horse in the race. Part of why it's so easy to view different characters as the leading hero is because the one you get seems to make some of the worst decisions a protagonist has ever made in cinema.
Frodo Baggins is a brave and courageous Hobbit who fights for his friends and does his kind proud. But his insistent wandering off, ignoring instructions, and selfish actions make it hard to support him at times. One of the most significant examples of this comes in the Dead Marshes segment.
When trudging through the Dead Marshes, Gollum tells Frodo explicitly not to "follow the lights". It's pretty clear that the best way to make it through here is to push on and not get sidetracked. Still, in typical Frodo fashion, he ignores his instructions and stares directly at one of the bodies in the Marsh, almost getting himself killed.
To make matters worse, this isn't even close to being the last time you'll see the name Frodo Baggins on this list.
