You would have thought that Stephen Strange’s journey after his car crash, with the subsequent journey to Kamar-Taj and to becoming a master of the mystic arts would have tempered his recklessness somewhat.

His unbending defence of the Time Stone throughout Infinity War, right up to handing it to Thanos, seemed to suggest it had, however Spider-Man: No Way Home confirmed that he was still just as reckless as ever.

In spite of the Sorcerer Supreme’s warning of the spell that would cause people to forget Spider-Man’s identity, and Stephen’s own hesitance to begin with, he performed the incredibly dangerous ritual.

Even knowing the risks, and that against the potential threat to the universe the reward of Peter’s life going back to normal was relatively small, he still did it and brought the multiverse to Earth-616.

Of course, it wasn’t just Strange’s fault, it was also Peter who messed with the parameters of the spell as it was being cast, but he is just a kid after all, with no experience of these dealings. Strange should have absolutely known better and trusted his first instinct that it was just was too dangerous.
