10 Dumbest Decisions In DCEU History

5. Diana Was Exiled From Themyscira

On more than one occasion, the homeland of the Amazons was described as a paradise, and it wasn’t hard to see why. Even in the cold and dark of World War I, in the middle of a storm-riddled ocean, blue skies and a peaceful stillness reigned. That is, until Steve Trevor landed on the shores of Themyscira by accident.

This changed the course of the entire war, it changed Themyscira, and it changed Diana’s life forever. When she left home to go and end the war with Steve, she was told she may not return.

Though there is some ambiguity surrounding Hyppolyta’s words to her daughter, as the phase ‘you may not return’ could have simply meant that she might die out there, the fact that she never did return home seems to suggest that she was living in exile. Why else wouldn’t she return if not that she wasn’t allowed?

The movie never truly delves into why she wasn’t allowed home, but whatever the reason, it couldn’t be good enough. It wasn’t her fault Steve entered the world where men were typically forbidden, and had she been able to return after defeating Ares, then Steppenwolf may never have been able to take the Mother Box from the protection of the Amazons.
