6. Doctor Octavius Dismissed Everything To Carry Out His Experiment

The second Spider-Man movie in the Sam Raimi trilogy starring Tobey Maguire featured a villain many believe to be the best in the franchise. Alfred Molina took on the role of Doctor Otto Octavius, and the bulk of the story revolved around him and his obsession.

When he first appeared, he was an intelligent and compassionate man, but when it came time for him to conduct his experiment, he didn't show the level of intelligence the man was certainly capable of displaying. While a bunch of financiers were standing around, he donned his four extra arms and launched into his presentation.

He was trying to create an unlimited source of power, which came in the form of a small sun he held in the palm of his hand. When the experiment began to fail, he was so enthralled with the power he created, he refused to listen to anyone begging him to shut it down.

He continued to try and make it work, but doing so led to the death of his wife. In the end, Spider-Man showed up and cut the power, bringing the experiment to an end, but not before the good doctor was badly wounded. Had he listened and shut down the experiment himself (like almost every other scientist would do), he wouldn't have become the monster he became.
