5. Paola Lets Her Eye Get Gouged Out - Zombi 2 (AKA Zombie Flesh Eaters)
Lucio Fulci's legendary 1979 zombie film Zombi 2 (aka Zombie Flesh Eaters) is perhaps best known for its infamously gnarly death scene in which poor Paola (Olga Karlatos) is grabbed by a zombie and has her eye impaled on a giant wooden splinter.
It's an awesome death scene, no question, but like so many of the movie's deaths is reliant on the victim having no sense of self-preservation whatsoever.
Even if you accept that Paola was simply overpowered by the zombie, why the hell didn't she use her hands or arms to snap off the splinter?
The zombie wasn't restraining her limbs, and the scene is so thoroughly milked for every last drop of tension that she had a solid 20 seconds to get the sharp end away from her eye.
Hell, she could've even snapped the wood off and used it to attack the zombie, no? She might've still died, but at least she would've gone down swinging.
