The Moment: Any scene involving Jar Jar Binks.
Why it's Dumb: To put it simply, Jar Jar is perhaps the most annoying "village idiot" stock character in movie history. His scenes don't contain any plot discrepancies, but his very existence pays testament to how Star Wars moved away from it's original audience and transitioned into a joke-ridden farce aimed solely at children. The criticism of commercializing childish alien characters was first levelled with the introduction of the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi, though Jar Jar raised a whole new level of controversy, not just with his ridiculousness but on the subject of racism; some critics have branded Jar Jar's accent and mannerisms as stereotypically "black Caribbean" in nature. Racist or not, Jar Jar was, according to the vast majority of fans, a travesty of creative film-making and a black mark on an otherwise brilliant film franchise.
