10 Dumbest Things In The Worst Summer Movie Season Ever
2. Professor X's Resurrection - X-Men: Days Of Future Past
The Scene: Older Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) arrives in X-Men: Days of Future Past without any explanation whatsoever as to how he was resurrected following his death at Dr. Jean Grey's hand in X-Men: The Last Stand. Why It's Dumb: Now, Bryan Singer has made no attempt to hide the fact that he wasn't a fan of Brett Ratner's The Last Stand, and basically tried to distance himself from it as much as possible, ultimately doing so completely by erasing Ratner's influence on the franchise entirely with a time travel-assisted soft reboot. Still, prior to that, weren't we owed some sort of explanation as to how Xavier could be wheeling around after being disintegrated? Ratner himself explained this in the director's commentary for The Last Stand, reasoning that in his film's post-credit scene, in which Xavier appears to transfer his mind into a comatose patient, Xavier has in fact transferred his mind into his braindead twin, who is also presumably somehow paralysed. It's way too tidy and contrived, which is probably why Singer chose to just ignore it, but would it have killed him to include some sort of jokey line about the ridiculousness of Xavier being alive after what happened to him? Thankfully, the movie moves so breathlessly and has so many other heady time travel-related issues to ponder that most audiences will quickly forget about this nagging thread.
