10 Dystopian Movie Futures You Really Wouldn't Want To Live In

9. The Hunger Games

A lot of dystopian futures are awful because of the tough physical conditions or the oppressive government presence. But The Hunger Games takes that and adds a side of gut-wrenching psychological torment, just to make sure that you know who's in charge. Why wouldn't you want to live in a world where you have to live in fear of your children being taken away from you and forced into an arena where they will either become murderers or get killed? All while living in abject poverty unless, by an accident of birth, you end up living in the one non-horrible part of the country. So yeah, Panem's not...ideal. You work yourself to the bone to provide the Capital with material goods that you will never benefit from, and once a year you have to sit around and watch a boy and girl from your town, someone you've likely watched grow up, get slaughtered. You have to. As in, it is required viewing. No thank you, President Snow -- we have a whole host of things we'd rather be doing. Like exploratory rectal surgery and our taxes.
