10 Early Predictions For 2018's Best Picture Oscar Nominees

2. Call Me By Your Name

Call Me By Your Name Armie Hammer
Sony Pictures Classics

Why It Will Be Nominated: At present this drama from Luca Guadagnino (A Bigger Splash) still holds an incredible 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, having been wildly praised since its Sundance debut as a deeply-felt, superbly-acted love story.

It doesn't hurt that it's based on an award-winning novel, either.

Why It Might Not: This could very well end up as that passionately-championed, intimate drama that just doesn't find enough support among the Academy's broader voter-base, especially as LGBT stories tend to make older voters feel rather uncomfortable.

Plus, with its clear similarities to Richard Linklater's Before movies, it could certainly go the same route of scoring huge critical and audience acclaim, but ending up a disappointing Academy omission.
