10 Early Predictions For 2019's Best Picture Oscar Nominees

1. Roma

Roma Alfonso Cuaron
Netflix

If the new film from Alfonso Cuaron scores a Best Picture nod, it'll be the first such nomination for Netflix, who will be releasing the film on December 14th.

Far away from the hi-tech thrills of Cuaron's Oscar-winning Best Picture nominee Gravity, Roma tells the tale of a middle-class family in 1970s New Mexico. If the test screening buzz is to be believed, he's served up a remarkable, surprisingly unique drama with eye-wateringly beautiful cinematography.

We won't know whether or not Roma lives up to the hype until it premieres at Venice at the end of the month, but given Cuaron's Academy history, this should be considered an early front-runner in most of the key Oscar categories.
