10 Early Predictions For 2019's Best Picture Oscar Nominees

Damien Chazelle's last two movies, Whiplash and La La Land, both scored Best Picture nominations, with the latter also winning Chazelle the Best Director Oscar at the mere age of 32 (making him the youngest winner in history).

As such, expectations are through the roof for his Ryan Gosling-starring Neil Armstrong biopic, which basically ticks all the Oscar boxes you could ask for: a biopic of a fascinating human being, a hip young director, a much-loved lead actor, a ridiculous supporting cast (Claire Foy, Corey Stoll, Kyle Chandler, Jason Clarke, Pablo Schreiber and Ciaran Hinds), an awards-friendly release date and a feted festival bow at Venice.

After La La Land had its Oscar win denied by Moonlight at the very last moment, it wouldn't surprise anyone if First Man actually pulls it off. Early screening reports are effusively positive, so stay tuned.
