10 Early Predictions For 2019's Best Picture Oscar Nominees
4. BlacKkKlansman
Spike Lee is earning some of the best reviews of his career right now for his adaptation of Ron Stallworth's memoir Black Klansman.
Widely praised as both a highly entertaining and deeply incisive, infuriating drama, if the film's cutting momentum can go the distance, this is likely to score nominations for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay alongside acting nods for both John David Washington (son of Denzel) and Adam Driver.
Given the timeliness of the movie's themes in the Trump era, and the reported emotional wallop the film packs just before the credits roll, there's a strong shot for Spike Lee to score the first Best Picture and Best Director nominations of his career. It's long overdue, to say the least.
