10 Easily Avoidable Deaths In Sci-Fi Movies

9. Do Anything Else - Darth Maul (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace)

Putting it lightly, the Star Wars prequel trilogy is a point of contention amongst fans, with The Phantom Menace getting the brunt of the ire from fans. However, even its biggest detractors would praise the climactic showdown where Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn valiantly go against Darth Maul.

That is, apart from one critical moment. Obi-Wan has just seen his master die and is presently hanging off a ledge, with Maul towering just a few feet above. Having already used the Force to push Obi-Wan over, certainly just repeating that move once more would finish the job. Indeed, many options were available to him, really; he could reach down and knock him off with his lightsaber or even drop it on top of him.

And out of all of those, what does he pick? Well, taking aimless swipes at him, of course. He doesn't even bend down to get close. All he's doing is hitting the ledge, making some nice sparks for the kids watching. This utter lapse in any common sense gave enough time for Obi-Wan to use the Force to recover and take out Maul, surprise surprise. Given what Maul just did, he probably deserved it just for that.
