The Dilemma: Having willed a gorgeous, quirky dream girl named Ruby Sparks (Zoe Kazan) into existence, author Calvin (Paul Dano) discovers that he can get her to do anything he wants by writing about her. Should he pursue this to its most perverse ends, or let Ruby go?
The Solution: After the two argue intensely, Calvin eventually lets Ruby go, giving her free will. At this point, with no knowledge of him, they coincidentally meet again, and presumably start over their relationship, but with Ruby being able to make her own choices this time.
How It Should Have Been Solved: Yes, it's arguably misogynistic and would have gone over horribly with audiences, but what guy would resist having a typewriter that allowed them to do this? The more realistic ending would have involved Calvin holding her in his dominion forever more, and what a great date movie that would have been...
