9. Death Of The Green Goblin (Spider-Man)
Columbia PicturesWillem Dafoes unhinged Green Goblin was one of the best parts of Sam Raimis original Spider-Man trilogy, and his final fight is a swansong for his gloriously over-the-top portrayal. Goblin spouts some superlatively daft one-liners throughout the scene in true villainous fashion Youve spun your last web, Spider-Man! and also rather creepily implies that he has a thing for the much younger Mary-Jane, just for good measure. The sound effects are loud and obnoxious and the fight is clearly primarily stunt work rather than CGI, which does nothing to discourage comparisons between the Goblin suit and the monster costumes in early Power Rangers. Osbornes final line is an emotional plea that Peter keep his secret from Harry, but then Dafoe dies with what can only be described as enthusiasm as he falls straight onto his hoverboard. Its easy to see why Raimi brought him back as an unexplained ghostly hallucination, because Dafoes bizarre performance would have been sorely missed.
