10 Epic Movie Villains That Were Teased (But Never Happened)

The Tease

The fifth Terminator movie certainly made a lot of questionable creative calls - namely transforming resistance leader John Connor (Jason Clarke) into a human-machine hybrid known as the T-3000 - but perhaps its one truly intriguing idea was giving rogue A.I. Skynet a dimension-hopping physical form.

An alternate version of Skynet ends up uploading itself into a T-5000 unit which goes undercover in the human resistance as a soldier named Alex (Matt Smith), who is ultimately responsible for John Connor's transformation.

And though the film concludes with the destruction of Connor, both the T-5000 and the system core of Genisys (this timeline's version of Skynet) live to fight another day.

The implication seemed to be that the T-5000 would transition into the primary antagonist role for the two proposed sequels, where its ability to leap between timelines and its ultimate goal would be further explained.

Why It Never Happened

Genisys flopped with critics but performed moderately well at the box office thanks to unexpected success in China.

But without much enthusiasm for a sequel from either fans or the cast members themselves, Paramount pulled the plug and yet again returned to the soft-reboot well, with the "direct" T2 sequel, Terminator: Dark Fate, set to release later this year.

As thoroughly naff as a Genisys sequel probably would've been, it's a shame we never got to see more of this ludicrously advanced Terminator in action.
