We can be thankful for the success of Asghar Farhadi's A Separation for the belated release of his earlier movie About Elly - there's little doubt that it was his much-deserved Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012 which led to this reappraisal of his filmography. Starring Golshifteh Farahani (Western audiences may recognise her from Body Of Lies and Exodus: Gods And Kings), About Elly focuses on a group of couple holidaying in the Caspian Sea, the relaxed and jovial mood shattering when Elly (Taraneh Alidoosti) goes missing and a search party is formed. Like A Separation, About Elly is a strong character piece exploring the way in which subtle gestures, offhand remarks and things left unsaid can often prove to be the most damaging. It's wonderfully acted, too, with pitch perfect performances from the ensemble cast.
