4. Night Of The Living Dead

George A. Romero's original zombie opus. Night of the Living Dead is a very well made film even though it was filmed with inexperienced actors and a very low budget. Romero gave the horror genre one of its most lasting icons with his brain dead and blood thirsty zombies that brought a sharp sense of social satire to the whole procedure. While he may claim that he didn't know the movie would be taken as a political statement it didn't stop audiences from noticing. The way that Romero brought such high levels of violence and gore to the screen is still relevant to the current time and still holds the capacity to frighten anyone young or old. Seeing a little girl eat her parents would have been enough to get Night of the Living Dead relegated to the grindhouse cinemas but Romero didn't stop there. He also showed scenes of decapitation and gore with such stark realism that his film still has yet to be topped.
