10 Essential Marvel Events Not Yet Used In The Movies
3. Dark Reign
With the Avengers coming under the power of seemingly reformed super-villain Norman Osborn, the Dark Reign storyline holds fascinating implications for any cinematic universe, let alone Marvel's.
In this event, Osborn helps save the world in Secret Invasion, and in the aftermath takes over S.H.I.E.L.D., which he re-purposes as H.A.M.M.E.R., replacing all the Avengers but one with well-known Marvel villains. The one Avenger that remains isn't much better, however, with the Superman-like Sentry prone to mental breakdowns and possessing an evil alter-ego capable of destroying worlds, The Void.
Betrayal, bad guys doing heroic things while trying to hide all the murder they're doing on the side, sociopathic and Machiavellian teammates trying to out-manoeuvre each other in increasingly complex mind games, dealing with Sentry's ticking timebomb of a psyche, all while trying to convince the general public they're trustworthy - what's not to love?
It's an exercise in psychopathy, murder, political machinations and shadowy intrigue that would do shows like House of Cards, Hannibal, and Game of Thrones proud. With characters like master assassin Bullseye, god of war Ares, cannibalistic Venom, and conniving homme fatale Daken among Osborn's "heroes", seeing this onscreen will almost certainly be a wild ride for audiences everywhere.
