10 Even More Movie Mistakes Directors Refused To Fix Because The Acting Was Too Good

6. An Inconceivable Injury - The Princess Bride

The Hateful Eight
20th Century Fox

A famous behind-the-scenes story from Rob Reiner's beloved fantasy drama The Princess Bride involves wrestler Andre the Giant and the mother of all farts.

Sadly, that didn't make it into the movie, so Andre's monumental toot will not be featured in this list.

What we can talk about is another noteworthy accident that happened on set, although this one is a lot less crudely funny.

In the scene where Westley and Buttercup are captured by Humperdinck's men, the six-fingered brute Count Turgen swiftly knocks out the former Dread Pirate Rogers with a swift bash on the head with the hilt of his sword.

The actor playing Turgen, the excellent Christopher Guest, was clearly so engrossed in the story that he forgot that what he was doing wasn't real.

He actually clobbered Westley actor Cary Elwes for real, genuinely knocking the poor fella out. The blonde-haired star went down like a tonne of bricks and required hospital treatment as a result.

Thankfully, he was alright in the end, and Reiner decided to keep this take. Well, if you're going to have a scene where someone gets knocked out, you might as well use the shot where they actually get knocked out.
