10 Even More Movie Mistakes Directors Refused To Fix Because The Acting Was Too Good

5. Dustin Guff-Man - Rain Man

Rain Man is a film built around the chemistry between Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise.

The two legends play a set of brothers; Cruise is a fast-talking suave salesman type, whilst Hoffman plays an autistic genius who struggles with real world interactions.

Over the course of the film, they must learn to bond as they were previously unaware of each other's existence. Tom Cruise was certainly aware of Dustin Hoffman's existence, especially when he farted whilst the two were sharing an enclosed space.

In a part of the movie where the two brothers are in a phone booth, Hoffman's character Raymond lets rip whilst Cruise's Charlie is on the phone. You might think that this was in the script as yet another indicator of Raymond's social awkwardness.

Nope. Real fart.

At least it wasn't Andre this time.

Hoffman even announced the passing of wind for all to hear. Whether he thought it would fit the character or was just messing with everyone is unclear.

Whatever his intention was, the scene stayed in the movie as Cruise was able to work this unexpected wrinkle into his dialogue.

Imagine being such a respected actor that even your farts can't be cut from a movie.
