The acting superstar known as Russell Crowe has never been shy about getting his hands dirty during the making of a movie. But, particularly in his younger years, he perhaps took what he himself classes as some "stupid" risks whilst trying to bring a scene to the screen.

One specific stunt whilst shooting Taylor Hackford's action thriller Proof of Life got a little too real for the Gladiator star.

As Crowe eventually told Nova's Chrissie, Sam, and Brownie (via Daily Mail), a moment early on in the feature required him to hang onto the side of a helicopter as Terry Thorne whilst the aircraft took of.

The vehicle then ended up taking off and reaching 100ft in the air, with Crowe's grip on a strap being the only thing that kept him from falling to his death.

He'd even recall how Hackford told the pilot to "go harder" in one take, leading to the actor getting "like 20 cuts across (his) face" after an explosion went off in the battlefield below.

Put simply, there was absolutely nothing fake about the shot of a terrified Crowe dangling out of this helicopter, folks.
