10 Even More Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed

3. Joker: Folie A Deux

On the surface, Joker: Folie a Deux seems like a safe bet. After all, Joker earned over $1 billion, making it the first R-rated film to reach that milestone. Due to Joaquin Phoenix's Oscar-winning performance, plenty of people will be gearing up to see the Clown Prince of Crime return.

However, there are two major concerns. Firstly, Folie a Deux cost $200 million, which is three or four times the budget of its predecessor. This means the follow-up must bring it at least $400 million to be deemed profitable.

By itself, this issue isn't too alarming. After all, if the sequel doesn't make as much this time around, surely it can make its money back, right? Which brings the second concern. While speaking to Variety, director Todd Phillips confirmed Folie a Deux will be "mostly a jukebox musical," containing at least 15 songs.

As has been already mentioned with Wicked, recent movie musicals aren't doing well at the box office, and the Joker sequel will struggle more since it's an R-rated musical entrenched in superhero lore. Although the first film was surprisingly accessible, incorporating songs and dances in this dark comic book adaption is sure to turn off a sizeable chunk of the demographic.
