10 Everyday Things Horror Movies Have Made Terrifying
6. Children
Children throughout history have always been used as a symbol of human innocence, not corrupted by the brutal realities of the world, and always there to bring out the good in teachers, parents, and any adult they come into contact with. Unfortunately they have the worst rep when it comes to scary movies.
One child can be bad enough, usually finding themselves having either gone insane from a bad experiment, or possesed by the literal devil. An army of children though can make things even more of a nightmare. In the horror classic Children of the Corn, viewers saw what happens when a community of kids loses its adult presence to teach it right from wrong, absolute bedlam.
The visual of cute kids spouting off slurs with the mouth of a sailor, or assembling the materials for a human sacrifice has always left viewers uneasy. Even worse, defending oneself can have one questioning their morality because nobody wants to be too rough with a kid, even if that kid is brandishing a sickle with the intent to kill someone, or chanting along with some satanic incantation.
Watching horror films might be hard thing to do for school teachers, parents, and baby sitters. Given that the most important thing to them becomes the source of all their terror, that might be for the best.
