10 Exact Moments Directors Knew They Wouldn't Make Movie Sequels
1. Josh Whedon Hated The Avengers: Age Of Ultron Cuts
When news broke that Josh Whedon would be directing the first Marvel Avengers movie eyebrows were raised. It was seen as something of a risk to entrust someone with predominantly a background in television with such a big project. But, Whedon more than lived up to the task.
The first movie Avengers was a huge success, and, quite naturally, Whedon was on board to film the sequel. It was during the sequel, Avengers Age Of Ultron, that his frustrations with working for Marvel started to show. Whedon revealed that there was disagreement between him and studio executives about certain scenes in the film.
Marvel wanted certain scenes cut after they did not respond well to test audiences, especially the scene involving Thor and Selvig in the cave. This did not sit well with Whedon who did not want to make a sequel that was just a rehash of the first film. Unhappy with the finished project, and having to bend to the studio's desires, Whedon decided to part way with Marvel and concentrate on smaller projects.
In 2017 he was brought in to finish DC's Justice League, after Zack Synder pulled out midway through filming, but has since gone back to work on television.
