4. The Realisation Of Leon's Role - Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City

Directed by Johannes Roberts, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City was intended to be a faithful adaptation of the first two Resident Evil games. And while that was loosely true - the same setting, the same buildings, the same characters - there was unfortunately so much wrong with a movie that franchise fans were genuinely excited for.

One of the main issues with Welcome to Raccoon City is how awful its depictions of certain key Resident Evil figures are. On that front, nobody is done dirty more than Leon S. Kennedy.

When Leon's first introduced to audiences in an early moments diner scene, he's not exactly made out to be particularly competent. After all, we're told that he had to move to the Raccoon City Police Department after he'd shot his former partner and had his job saved by his father. Oh, and Leon also has a drinking problem. But hey, this is only 15 minutes into the film, so there's plentiful chance for Kennedy to get his time to shine...

Skip ahead another 20 minutes, and it's hammered home - during a S.T.A.R.S. meeting he interrupts - how Leon is a total doofus who his peers have zero respect for. Rather than the stoic, steely-eyed badass rookie introduced in the Resident Evil 2 game, this Leon S. Kennedy is a bumbling, stumbling fool who is constantly mocked by his peers.

Once audiences realised Welcome to Raccoon City couldn't even get Leon right, all enthusiasm was dampened.
