Look, everyone knew Gwen Stacy was dying in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This was the first cinematic version of the superhero's story to feature this infamously doomed heroine in a major way, and comic fans were betting everything on her iconic demise coming in the second film.

The writers and director of course remained vague about the character's fate in pre-release interviews, but honestly they shouldn't have bothered, because one of the first scenes gives the game away immediately. The film's opening features Gwen and Peter Parker graduating high school, with the former giving a valedictorian speech to the rest of her classmates and, apparently, the audience.

The film focuses on this scene intensely, as Gwen repeatedly draws attention to her own mortality. Hell, the very first line is, "I know that we all think we're immortal." She goes on to emotionally say that "what makes life valuable is that it doesn't last forever, what makes it precious is that it ends," promising "there will be dark days ahead of us" and that "we have to be greater than what we suffer."

Even if you know nothing about screenplays, this entire speech is so clearly set up to foreshadow her death at the end of the film, and is so on the nose about how her words will reach Peter as he grieves her.

Surprise, surprise, this is exactly how they come back into play at the end.
