10 Expanded Universe Creations That Star Wars 7 Could Incorporate

3. Grand Admiral Thrawn

One of the most heralded Expanded Universe stories and the one responsible for reigniting Star Wars literature is the Thrawn trilogy (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command). The main antagonist of the Thrawn trilogy is (obviously) Thrawn, a grand admiral of the Empire who has returned to take command in the wake of the Emperor's death. Thrawn enlists the aid of mad Jedi clone Joruus C'Boath and begins to strike against the fledgling New Republic one strategic target at a time. The Thrawn trilogy introduces fan-favorite characters such as smuggler Talon Karrde and Luke's future wife Mara Jade (let alone the Grand Admiral himself), and the twins Jacen and Jaina Solo are born in The Last Command. The story would have to be heavily changed were it to be directly adapted; I doubt Mark Hamill is only now meeting his wife, and Carrie Fisher isn't having any more children. However, the pure awesomeness of seeing Thrawn on screen would trump all of this. Benedict Cumberbatch, anyone? In all honesty, it is far more likely that if Thrawn makes an appearance at all, it would be as a reference, the "Remember that time we fought that admiral and the crazy Jedi? Let's do the same thing we did then" kind of thing. If Mara Jade or the twins make an appearance in Episode VII (which is likely), fans can rest easy knowing that the events of the Thrawn trilogy did indeed likely take place.
