10 Failed Alternatives To Upcoming Comic Book Movies

10. Peyton Reed's Fantastic Four

Upcoming Film: Fantastic Four. Director: Josh Trank (2015) Alternative Film: Fantastic Four. Director: Peyton Reed The Fantastic Four is currently going through its second cinematic adaptation - third if you count the failed Roger Corman attempt from 1994 - with audiences hoping to banish all thoughts of Tim Story's cheesy, lacklustre films and an atrocious attempt at Doctor Doom. So far the response to Josh Trank's reboot has been less than positive and it doesn't look as if Doctor Doom is going to fare much better in this version. But there is hope in the unknown. Before Tim Story, came Peyton Reed, the director taking over the helm from Edgar Wright in this year's Ant Man. Peyton pitched a Fantastic Four that focused on the public life of these heroes versus the bickering family members behind closed doors. Most intriguing was the cast which sounded right out a fan-boy's dream listing; Alexis Denisof as Reed Richards, Charlize Theron as Sue Storm, Paul Walker as Johnny Storm, John C. Reilly voicing Ben Grimm. Completing the mix would have been Jude Law as Doctor Doom, the only choice that may have garnered a mixed response. However reviews of Doug Petrie's script have suggested Doom was the villain fans have long wanted to see on film too. Peyton Reed even pondered taking the Fantastic Four back to its creative roots and setting it in the 1960s, something which worked brilliantly with X Men: First Class. Sadly Reed left the project, followed by Petrie, Tim Story helmed the next cinematic attempt and now audiences are looking at the second adaptation of the Fantastic Four in a decade.
