10 Failed Alternatives To Upcoming Comic Book Movies

7. Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman

Upcoming Film: Wonder Woman. Director: Michelle MacLaren (2017) Alternative Film: Wonder Woman. Director: Joss Whedon Given that comic book movies are well into their 'golden age' it seems ludicrous that audiences are still waiting to see Wonder Woman on the big screen. Sure female-led superhero movies have been failures in the past but there are plenty of male equivalents - the first attempt at Green Lantern for example. But finally Wonder Woman will make her debut in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, before heading off to her solo outing in 2017. Of course there was one bold attempt to bring Wonder Woman to film before with none other than Joss Whedon himself helming the project. The man who gave us the definite super heroine on TV - Buffy Summers - and The Avengers; it seems ludicrous that this project never came to fruition. Whedon envisioned her as an Angelina Jolie-type goddess travelling the globe and attempting to balance her powers with her humanity through her love affair with Steve Trevor. He would be her connection to this world, transitioning her from lost soul to superhero. Unfortunately Warner Bros didn't like Whedon's vision of Wonder Woman and the project died. While it might have taken even longer for Wonder Woman to get to the big screen, it did allow Whedon to move on to his two Avengers movies and that was a very good thing.
