5. Tomb Raider
There is one single thing that both Tomb Raider films got right, and that is the flawless casting of Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. Though Jolie tried her best to make the films fun and exciting, the scripting prevented them from being anything more than generic, hollow adaptations of the classic video games, and after the sequel disappointed at the box office, producers and Jolie swore the franchise off. However, there is a very easy way to re-purpose Tomb Raider as a new cinematic venture, as video game developers Crystal Dynamics have done much of the hard work already. The recent Tomb Raider video game reboot re-imagines Lara's journey with a far darker, more brutal tone, while also presenting to us a Lara Croft who is less a sex object and more an anatomically plausible human being with both vulnerability and extreme resourcefulness. Given how in vogue dark reboots are these days, a Tomb Raider movie in this vein would likely do exceedingly well, and in changing the character's physical properties, it opens up the casting call to women beyond those who have Jolie's impossible figure.
