10 Family Movies With Mind-Blowingly Questionable Morals

6. Edward Scissorhands Tim Burton had to appear somewhere on this list. He alone is probably responsible for more childhood nightmares than any other film director. And this (brilliant) film is no exception. The first glaring issue is that Edward is not human. He may be loveable and have a heart of gold, but he is not human. In genetic make-up he has more similarities to Frankenstein's monster than he has to us. In fact, he has no genetic make-up. Yet we still find ourselves rooting for a romantic relationship between him and Winona Ryder. This must be very confusing for a child, and may lead to some worrying human-robot relationship issues in the future. At the end of the film, (SPOILER) Edward murders Kim's unpleasant ex-boyfriend by stabbing him and pushing him out of a window. There's no doubt that Jim was a bit of a b**tard, and Edward could have justified his actions as self-defence. But don't we teach children not to hit back, and to fetch a teacher if violence is used against us? Maybe the moral thing for Edward to have done would have been to call the police. He may however have struggled with the phone.
