10 Famous Actors Who Inexplicably Popped Up In Found Footage Movies

6. Lizzy Caplan (Cloverfield)

Prior to Cloverfield, Lizzy Caplan€™s filmography mostly consisted of bit parts and small roles on shows like Freaks And Geeks, Smallville, and Once And Again. But by far her most memorable appearance - both then and arguably still now - was her acerbic turn in 2004€™s Mean Girls, where she played Janis Ian, the aggressively anti-socialite friend to Lindsay Lohan€™s Cady Heron. Despite not being the film's star, Caplan still managed to make a bitingly memorable impression. Which is why, when Caplan first shows up on screen as Marlena during the opening party sequence in Matt Reeves€™ 2008 found footage monster flick Cloverfield, the profound shock that accompanies Caplan's appearance in the film isn€™t exclusively a response to recognising a familiar face in a found footage movie. but also a visceral reaction to the simple visual of seeing Janis Ian at a party. Mingling. Having a good time. What. The. Heck? Fortunately, Cloverfield moves at such a blisteringly fast pace and crams so much destruction, chaos, and all around ruin into its scant 84 minutes that the shock that comes with seeing €œthe Goth chick€ from Mean Girls in one of the main roles proves only momentary. By the time that the first big set piece wraps, Caplan€™s Marlena is just another one of the movie€™s assortment of unusually attractive 30-something-faces, fleeing down the streets of New York en masse.
