10 Famous Actors Who Turned Down Roles In Marvel Movies

Jessica Chastain was initially in line to portray villainess Maya Hansen in Iron Man 3. She had to back out due to scheduling issues, but got another crack at the MCU when she was up for the part of Hope Van Dyne, a.k.a. The Wasp.

Chastain was also the first choice for Doctor Strange love interest Christine Palmer. She turned that down because she believed she would only have one shot in the MCU and wanted to "wear a cape". She never mentioned wings.

Chastain got another shot to suit up when she was in consideration for The Wasp. The first Ant Man film was released in 2015, which was the same year that Chastain had hits like The Martian and Crimson Peak. Taking the chance on Wasp would have put Chastain in three Ant Man movies (Ant Man and The Wasp: Quantumania comes out in 2023) and Avengers: Endgame.

Again Chastain turned down a spot in the MCU, only to appear four years later in the atrocious X-Men: Dark Phoenix as the forgettable minor villain Vuk. While actors can never really know how a project will turn out, giving up the part of The Wasp had to... well... sting.
