10 Famous Actors Who Turned Down Roles In Marvel Movies
2. Joseph Gordon-Levitt - Star Lord
He was a welcome addition to the Dark Knight trilogy, but Joey G-Levitt as Peter Quill? He was the studio's first choice, but turned down the part in favor of appearing in 2014's Sin City sequel.
The appeal of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is easy to understand. For Gordon-Levitt, it was the chance to work with director Robert Rodriguez and writer Frank Miller on a dark, noir throwback film. The first Sin City was also very well received by critics and audiences, so there was potential in the franchise.
A Dame to Kill For paled in comparison to the first movie, and the franchise fizzled out. Although Chris Pratt has shone in the role of Peter Quill, he was initially hesitant as well because he didn't think he could get in the physical shape needed. He found a way around that and made Star Lord, a third-tier character in the comics, into a headline act.
In the end, Gordon-Levitt never got to be Robin and never got to reprise his Sin City role. Recently it's been reported that Gordon-Levitt is back in talks with Marvel, but as of this writing, nothing has been carved in stone.
