When the role of Natasha Romanoff was first cast in 2009's Iron Man 2, Emily Blunt's star was still on the rise. Months into negotiations, Blunt was removed from the role. In fairness to Blunt, she didn't really want to turn down the part.

After The Devil Wears Prada, she was contractually obligated to appear in another Fox project. While she was not thrilled about it, she ended up in the dud Gulliver's Travels.

In an interview with Howard Stern, Blunt stated, "I was contracted to do Gulliver's Travels. I didn't want to do Gulliver's Travels." She added that the situation “was a bit of a heartbreaker for me, because I take such pride in the decisions that I make, and they mean so much to me, the films that I do”.

While she was unsure about playing a superhero, she said the choice wasn't hers to make. This was because she was roped into an “optional picture deal” she had signed with 20th Century Fox ahead of her 2006 breakout “The Devil Wears Prada.”

Blunt was also offered, and turned down, the role of Peggy Carter. Recently she has dispelled rumors that she will play Invisible Woman in the next Fantastic Four reboot.
